Bastille Origins
Marie Hortense was born into a family of Champagne winemakers and was taught that you get the best out of nature by listening to its rhythm and by respecting those who cultivate it.
Whilst there were many choices to use natural cosmetics, Marie was frustrated by the lack of alternatives to synthetic perfumes and in 2019 met with perfumers to understand why it was not possible to imagine a natural, transparent alternative to traditional synthetic scents.

In 2022 the brand was boosted with the recruitment of Sophie Maisant and Pascal Hyafil both of whom had perfume experience from Chanel.
They were fuelled by their combined ambition to innovate the conventional perfume sector, specifically with a focus on ecological integrity, a transparency of ingredients for the end consumer and a reduced reliance on synthetics to produce scent profiles.

Each scent is crafted with care, aiming to evoke emotions and memories, while also making a statement about the wearer's individuality.
Bastille are free as creators, free as a brand and by extension offer this freedom to consumers. Their scents are a statement of identity, a declaration of independence, and a celebration of the senses.

Fragrance composition is still considered a "trade secret" and the exact ingredient list is protected by copyright law. This is why perfume brands do not have to reveal their ingredients and the consumer never really knows what is in the perfume.
Bastille believes in transparency and in natural ingredients. They are committed to eco-friendly practices, use recyclable packaging and source ingredients responsibly.

The perfume industry is slowly changing towards a more eco-responsible mode of consumption with the introduction of "clean" cosmetics which are natural and respectful of your health and
the planet.
Bastille work locally on production and 95% of their ingredients are classed as natural (5% clean synthetic). All their components come from French or European partners. All the packaging is made from FSC™ certified paper and they do our utmost to banish plastic as far as possible.
FAQs
They are manufactured in France. Their perfumes are created in Paris, assembled in Grasse, and bottled in Seine et Marne. Some of their components come from European partners, notably the bottles, which are produced in Italy. They are decorated by an artisan in Val-de-Marne, and we have entrusted the manufacture of our cardboard boxes to a printer in Barcelona.
Bastille is part of PETA's (People for the EthicalTreatment of Animals) "Global Beauty without bunnies" program, which proves that our fragrances are vegan and not tested on animals.
Organic wheat alcohol. Organic wheat alcohol is non-toxic and safe for use in fragrance creation. It is also less likely to cause skin irritation or allergic reactions than some synthetic alcohols.
