Alisa, the founder of Herbowski, was born and raised in Eastern Europe and the Banya (sauna) culture is a huge influence on the brand. In Alisa's words;

"Our brand is inspired by Slavic Bathhouse Rituals and Traditions. Every product we make has a story, every scent we create has been originated from a particular memory. By using our products I want to take you for a very special journey at the comfort of your own home."

Oil from Herbowskui on autumn leaves

Raw Ingredients

Herbowski use organic medicinal plants and flowers sourced from a local biodynamic farm in England, as well as wildcrafted unique medicinal plants from a remote region of Altai Mountains. Altai today is one of the most ecologically clean places on Earth. Herbowski use only plants that grow there in abundance and these are collected for them by local herbalists. Botanicals are gathered for Herbowski throughout the late spring and summer seasons and delivered in autumn, so only once per year. They make extracts from these botanicals in-house using solar power.

It is a common misconception that synthetic, lab-created ingredients are necessary to achieve positive results in skin care. This is not true. Lab-made ingredients are cheaper than real plants and they cannot contain the nutrient content and vibrancy that nature can deliver.

Artisan Skincare

Herbowski's 100% organic, raw, unrefined whole plant ingredients contain hundreds of antioxidants, vitamins, and nutrients. In short, there is simply no man-made ingredient that can compare to the delicate, intricate, and powerful science of nature. Herbowski use botanical extracts in all of their products.

It took Herbowski years to find the best producers of oils and butters. All of the oils and butters they use are certified organic, raw, cold pressed, unrefined, and pressed fresh for them by the farms that grow them or by artisan pressers. Herbowski use organic essential oils that have not been contaminated with pesticides or herbicides to ensure the most potent medicine for the most noticeable results. Herbowski products do not contain palm oils, synthetic detergents, artificial colorants or fragrance, parabens, sulphates, silicones, and mineral oils.

Herbowski's Influences

About the Banya

Historians place the Banya of Eastern Europe in a central societal role by the 900s. Throughout history, the Banya has been enjoyed by all classes. Villagers who did manual labour used to visit a public bathhouse, often the only place to wash off, while the wealthy would sometimes indulge in private Banyas.

Banyas are still popular today. Most Banyas are gender separated and nudity is optional. They typically include a cold plunge pool and a steam room with wooden benches at varying heights - the higher you go, the hotter it gets. They offer treatments such as honey & salt or coffee scrub, Siberian traditional body wash, massage, mud masks, aroma steams and herbal teas. It is an experience that takes a few hours and leaves you restored and completely relaxed.

The Plastic Problem

In the middle of the Pacific Ocean, there’s a floating mass of plastic waste. It’s there because humans dump 10 million tons of plastic waste into the ocean each year. Single-use plastic packaging for everyday products accounted for 54% of the world’s plastic waste in 2015.

Recycling is a good, but an underused solution (only 9% of worldwide plastic waste actually gets recycled). Instead of asking how we can recycle more plastic, the solution is working together to find ways to consume less of it in the first place.

Sustainable Packaging

Herbowski are fully committed to being a plastic-free brand, so they have worked hard to find the packaging that fits their ethos.

Their product packaging is made out of 100% post-consumer fibres, we use soy ink, eco labels, glass and aluminium recyclable bottles, kraft shipping boxes and eco filling. The packaging is made in the UK, by the printer that offsets carbon footprint and uses wind energy for all the production.

Herbowski are also working on bringing in a plastic offsetting program.

Planting Trees

Carbon Offsetting

As part of Herbowski's commitment, they will offset 1.25 Tonnes of CO² every month with Carbon Neutral Britain Program. Over a year, they will offset 15 Tonnes of CO².

Herbowski will also plant 20 trees every month in sustainable projects around the world. Over a year, they will plant 240 trees – which is the equivalent to 1 acre of Amazon Reforestation.
