Modern Mino Pottery Rice Bowl from Japan

The Chips Inc. Bricks Bowl in green is a testament to functional design and aesthetic appeal. Crafted with a focus on usability and comfort, the bowl features a silhouette that is timeless and easy to hold. Slightly larger than regular rice bowls making it ideal for a variety of dishes such as cereals, salads. The half colour glaze reveals the fine smooth textured red clay that was used by the Mino artisan potters.

Chips Inc. created this work together with artisans from the Mino Province using Mino materials and techniques. Mino Pottery is spectacular and is celebrated and respected all over Japan (as well as the rest of the world.)/p>

BRICKS mugs are made using a special technique called "one-piece moulding," in which the body and handle are made from the same mould. The smooth, flowing curves of the one-piece moulding technique make these mugs very attractive. The fine red clay is used, and you can feel the smooth texture of the clay in the parts where the bare clay is left.

Mino ware (Mino yaki in Japanese) is a type of pottery crafted primarily in eastern Gifu Prefecture, particularly in the towns of Tajimi, Toki, Mizunami, and Kani. Notably, Mino ceramics make up 50% of Japan's total ceramic production.

This pottery tradition boasts a rich history stretching back over 1,300 years. Its origins are believed to trace back to the late Kofun period (7th century) in Gifu Prefecture's Tono region. Back then, potters used ancient anagama kilns built into mountainsides to fire their hard Sueki earthenware.
