Rafter Five from Japanese Games Studio, Oink Games, is a mini dexterity balance/placement game where you balance 5 differently shaped rafter pieces to expand your raft while also placing treasure chests in positions that are likely to cause your opponents problems.

Much like 'Jenga', the aim is to avoid overbalancing the raft / tower on your turn and specifically to avoid knocking your opponents treasure off the rickety raft. The strategy involves some pretty precarious placement of your own treasure in order to pressure your opponents into knocking it off the raft. If a player knocks off 5 of their opponents treasure chests then they lose the round.

A fun and very simple balance game, very family friendly and portable enough to be taken on trips away. A lot of fun in small box!

Description from the publisher:

5 rafters are collecting planks of wood to make their raft bigger. Try your best to instruct them to load the cargo into the raft. But be careful, the balance of the raft extensions is important! If a person that is supporting the raft is moved, the raft will collapse all at once. Will you be able to skillfully build the raft and make it difficult for others to expand while also making sure you aren't the one to let it all fall apart? Will it collapse!? Will it hold!? Enjoy the strange balancing act in this brainy, balance game!

Our Top Board Games Recommendations

Board games have seen a huge resurgence in recent times where they have become the social antidote to an often unsocial digital age. But you don’t have to stick to the classics (yawn), and you don’t have to fall out with your friends and family (I am speaking as someone who once cried and stormed out of the room over a game of Risk).
