Hand-Thrown Tokyo Series Porcelain Mug in Monochrome Glazes
The Sip Cup by Studio Arhoj is a generous, everyday drinking mug designed for coffee, tea and slower moments around the table. Introduced as part of the brand’s Tokyo Series tableware collection, it reflects the studio’s relaxed approach to functional ceramics — playful, practical and made to be used daily.
Each cup is slip-cast from porcelain in Studio Arhoj’s Copenhagen workshop. Porcelain gives the piece a lighter feel and a finer edge than heavier clay bodies, while keeping the shape clean and balanced. The simple cylindrical form sits comfortably in the hand and works equally well for coffee, tea, water or sake.
- Approximately 7 x 6.5cm,
- Holds +/- 140ml
- Each mug is individually wheel-thrown and hand-glazed, so variations in colour and finish will occur.
- Photos are only indicative. Items will differ slightly, but will be within the colour spectrum of the Sip Cup in the photo.
Glaze is where each Sip Cup develops its personality. The studio is known for layered reactive finishes that shift and pool during firing, creating subtle speckles, colour transitions and unexpected surface textures. Because the glazing and firing process varies slightly from batch to batch, every cup carries its own character while keeping the same reliable form.
The compact scale makes the Sip Cup versatile at the table. It works for a quick espresso, green tea, or as a small tumbler for drinks throughout the day. The handle-free design also makes the cups easy to stack and mix alongside other pieces from the Tokyo Series.
At approximately 7 x 6.5cm, this mug can hold +/- 140ml. It is both dishwasher and microwave safe, although hand washing is suggested for optimal care (although it is certainly too nice for the dishwasher!).
Studio Arhoj is a Copenhagen-based ceramics studio known for its bold glazes, soft forms and distinctive mix of Scandinavian design and Japanese ceramic tradition. Each piece is shaped, cast and finished by hand, with colours that shift and react during firing to create completely unique results.
From collectable figurines to everyday tableware, Studio Arhoj objects sit between function and expression. Produced in small batches, no two pieces are ever exactly the same which is part of what makes the studio’s work so recognisable and widely collected.
