Stora Skuggan
Scents for the Curious
Perfume with a story
Every Stora Skuggan fragrance begins with an imaginative and creative reference. Silphium imagines the scent of an ancient plant harvested to extinction; Monkeyflower explores a flower that mysteriously lost its fragrance; Fantôme de Maules takes its name from an enigmatic masked figure seen wandering a Swiss forest. These aren’t simply names added to finished perfumes. The stories provide the starting point for the ingredients, atmosphere and character of each scent.
Nine fragrances, nine worlds
The collection moves from the bright green meadow character of Monkeyflower and citrus-and-tea freshness of Moonmilk through the powdery florals of Thumbsucker and aromatic spice of Silphium, before becoming smokier, darker and more resinous with Mistpouffer, Hexensalbe, Azalai and PINE. Each can be explored individually, or the complete nine-fragrance collection is available in Stora Skuggan’s Discovery Set, a particularly good place to start with this contemporary niche fragrance brand.
Stora Skuggan
Founded in Stockholm, Stora Skuggan approaches fragrance as both perfumery and storytelling. Scent development, composition, artwork and packaging are created by the studio’s own team, resulting in a collection with an unusually singular identity from the fragrance itself through to its distinctive illustrated bottles and oversized spherical caps.
Finished fragrances are manufactured in Sweden and combine natural and synthetic materials in accordance with IFRA and EU cosmetic standards.
The result is a collection that’s difficult to reduce to familiar categories: floral scents can be spiced and resinous, woods can be airy and sweet, and fresh fragrances can contain notes as unexpected as sunscreen or black tea.
