Ancient Pottery from Chips Inc is a Japanese ceramic series that has been crafted to look aged with deliberate patinas in the glaze. This small coffee dripper is for 1 to 2 cups and be placed either directly over a mug or over a small coffee pot such as the Ancient Pottery tea/coffee pot. Simply add a small filter and your ground coffee of choice and slowly pour hot water over the grind.

The coffee dripper is made of durable stoneware in an off-white semi matt glaze. Granules of iron powder appear on the surface of the glaze creates colour and texture that is reminiscent of antique metal tableware and looks fantastic when paired with the Ancient Pottery mug. 

Chips Inc. created this work together with artisans from the Mino Province using Mino materials and techniques. Mino Pottery is spectacular and is celebrated and respected all over Japan (as well as the rest of the world.)

As this product is individually made by hand, there may be variations in shape, size, and colour shading. Each time you use it, the colour of the dripper may change slightly due to natural chemical reactions, giving the vessel a unique patina over time.

    Mino ware

    Mino ware (Mino yaki in Japanese) is a type of pottery crafted primarily in eastern Gifu Prefecture, particularly in the towns of Tajimi, Toki, Mizunami, and Kani. Notably, Mino ceramics make up 50% of Japan's total ceramic production.

    This pottery tradition boasts a rich history stretching back over 1,300 years. Its origins are believed to trace back to the late Kofun period (7th century) in Gifu Prefecture's Tono region. Back then, potters used ancient anagama kilns built into mountainsides to fire their hard Sueki earthenware.
