We Are Rewind
Tape it or Leave it
Why cassette, and why now?
The appeal of cassette was never only about perfect sound. It was about participation: recording something yourself, making a compilation for someone, writing on the label and building a physical music collection.
We Are Rewind preserves that experience while removing some of the frustrations of vintage hardware. USB-C charging replaces disposable batteries, Bluetooth opens cassette listening up to modern headphones and speakers, and new blank tapes mean the format isn’t limited to whatever survived in the attic.
A new generation of analogue audio
Founded in Paris, We Are Rewind approaches cassette as a living format rather than a museum piece. Its designs reference the portable players and boomboxes of the 1980s without becoming reproductions. They use bold colour, simple physical controls and contemporary components to create something distinctly new.
The result sits somewhere between audio equipment and design object, made for rediscovering an old tape collection, starting a new one, or simply experiencing music in a more physical way.
We Are Rewind | Bluetooth Cassette Players
There’s something about cassette that streaming can’t quite replicate. Choosing a tape, turning it over, making a mixtape and listening to an album in sequence all make music a little more deliberate. We Are Rewind takes old school nostalgia and builds them into audio products designed for how we listen today.
Its portable cassette players retain the mechanical controls and physical character of the originals while adding rechargeable batteries and Bluetooth, allowing tapes to be played through wireless headphones and speakers.
At the other end of the scale, the Curtis boombox combines cassette playback and recording with powerful speakers and modern wireless connectivity. Add a blank tape and you can even start making mixtapes again.
