J Hannah

Sophisticated Nail Polish from L.A.

Los Angeles-based J. Hannah approaches nail colour with the eye of a jewellery designer. Its cult polishes explore nuanced, unexpected shades inspired by artists’ palettes, natural elements and cultural curiosities. Sophisticated colour designed to become part of a considered wardrobe.

FROM JEWELLERY TO COLOUR

J. Hannah began as the jewellery practice of Los Angeles designer Jess Hannah, whose interest in adornment was sparked by vintage pieces inherited from her grandmother. Her work reinterprets the character and permanence of heirloom jewellery through a cleaner, contemporary lens.

Nail polish followed naturally. If jewellery was about considering the hand and how we adorn it, colour offered another medium to explore. The first J. Hannah polish collection launched in 2017, bringing the same restrained approach to shades created for people who didn’t necessarily consider themselves nail-polish people.

THE UNEXPECTED PALETTE

J. Hannah looks beyond conventional beauty references when developing colour. Art, objects, landscapes and seemingly unremarkable shades all become starting points, resulting in colours that can feel strange in the bottle but remarkably good on the hand.

It’s an approach that has produced everything from muted artist-inspired neutrals to Compost, a muddy green-brown based on a colour once labelled one of the world’s ugliest. Rather than chasing seasonal trends, J. Hannah celebrates subtlety, ambiguity and finding beauty in colours others might overlook.

For anyone who has ever said they don’t really wear nail polish, this might be the exception.

COLOUR, CONSIDERED

Forget the usual reds, pinks and seasonal trends. J. Hannah explores the shades in between: murky greens, softened neutrals, unusual yellows and complex, hard-to-place tones that somehow feel completely wearable.

Highly pigmented, cruelty-free and made in the USA, each polish is designed as a subtle complement to the hand. It's less beauty trend, more finishing detail.

J. Hannah polish is guaranteed to last 18 months after the bottle is opened. The best place to store it would be in a cool location away from direct sunlight. Separation is natural, and does not affect the efficacy or colour of your polish. Shake and then mix with the brush for best effect.

Applied properly J Hannah polish should last 5-7 days before chipping. This means clean nails, two thin coats, and your favourite top coat.

Nail Polish separates because the colourants-pigmented particles suspended in the formula vary in weight. Heavier particles will tend to settle at the bottom over time. Shaking and then mixing with the brush will combine the pigment properly again.
