THE IMPORTANCE OF NATURAL INGREDIENTS IN YOUR SELF-CARE PRODUCTS
Self-care is important in maintaining a healthy relationship with yourself. It can mean many things to many people, from reading a good book to doing a hot yoga class, but here at USTUDIO we are focusing on self-care in terms of looking after your skin, hair and body, and maybe indulging yourself a little on the way! Life is tough and we all need to treat ourselves sometimes. And USTUDIO are choosy in terms of the products we sell in our self-care department, so you know that you are treating yourself to some high-quality goodies…
WHY USE NATURAL INGREDIENTS?
Taking care of your physical and emotional wellbeing cannot be underestimated and every culture has its own age-old customs for self-care practices. Many modern brands now pay a lot of attention to these traditions, using natural ingredients and traditional methods. For example, Tangent GC’s Oud liquid soap contains Oud oil, extracted from resin secreted from the host tree using steam distillation.
After all, it is often the simplest of products that contain minimal ingredients that will serve you the best. There is a reason why historical methods have remained popular for centuries, it is because they are made from quality, natural ingredients. See Triumph and Disaster’s Old Fashioned Shave Cream, with it’s gentle and natural lanolin and coconut drawing from a vintage formulation.
QUALITY PRODUCTS WITH QUALITY INGREDIENTS
One of the main benefits of using our natural self-care products is that they are of excellent quality. You can feel the difference in the way the creams and lotions smell, the textures they have and the way they make your hair and skin feel after using them. Neighbourhood Botanicals’ ‘I was a Teenage Hand Model’ hand balm is 100% natural and cruelty free. The ingredients make it helpful not only for binding moisture to dry skin, but for healing wounds, burns, sunburn, nappy rash, tattoos… Those with eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis have also found some sweet relief from this balm.
The luxuriousness of brands such as L:A Bruket and Neighbourhood Botanicals shines through in the wonderful all natural scents, and the way they make you feel truly pampered when you use them. And our self-care brands’ beautiful product design really reflects the quality you find inside, which adds some extra luxury to the experience of using them. Once you have used high-quality and natural self-care products, you will never go back because nothing else feels quite so lovely. For example, L:a Bruket’s shampoos and conditioners contain no parabens or silicones, instead using gorgeously scented natural ingredients.
It's reassuring to know that a lot of the core ingredients in organic or natural products have been used for an incredibly long time; in some cases, evolving from ancient remedies. There is no better test than history, and the long-term appeal of natural ingredients proves this. We have also found that self-care products from small brands are a lot less likely to use filler ingredients to bulk out their products, which a lot of high-street brands do in order to cut costs. Our self-care brands don’t bulk out their packaging, either! Natural self-care brands often use recyclable materials for their bottles and recycled cardboard for their boxes.
THEY DO NOT NEGATIVELY IMPACT THE ENVIRONMENT
It is not surprising that natural products are better for the environment than synthetic products. One of the most important reasons for this is that the chemicals from synthetic products run the risk of seriously harming the environment. If any synthetic chemicals seep into the ground, then over time, they can damage nearby ecosystems.
Another concern is that the level of large-scale manufacturing involved with some skincare and self-care products creates excessive stress on the environment. This is because the extraction of some ingredients, such as aluminium, requires extensive mining. Using natural and renewable ingredients from independent brands just doesn’t cause these kinds of problems for our planet. Here’s a lovely example, Neighbourhood Botanicals’ exfoliating Konjac Sponge, made from natural Konjac root vegetable fibre. Just soak for one minute to transform into a silky daily exfoliating sponge for your face.
THEY ARE SAFE
In comparison to products pumped with chemicals, natural products are better for you. This is because the ingredients contained within natural products are much safer than those produced by the petrochemical industry. L:a Bruket’s lovely lip balm uses organic beeswax, almond oil and coconut oil instead of the cheaper alternative of petrochemicals.
Many people struggle with sensitive skin, and this can be a real issue when using synthetic products. They can be incredibly harmful to the skin, causing anything from redness to full-on allergic reactions. Problematic ingredients to look out for include parabens, sulphates, petrochemicals, synthetic dyes, propylene glycol, and triclosan. Brands such as Tangent GC forgo such ingredients, instead creating beautiful products such as their natural, organic and vegan Tulip Hand Cream using a base of vegetable ingredients such as shea butter and aloe vera, rapeseed, olive and coconut oils.
CRUELTY-FREE & VEGAN SELFCARE
It’s staggering how many manufacturers still test on animals, even some of the biggest names in the industry are guilty of this cruelty. The natural product manufacturers that we work with forego animal testing, and the entire process of making the products will not cause any harm to other living beings.
All of these are reasons why natural products are regarded as much more ethical than many synthetic brands, as buying natural and sustainably sourced products is much kinder to the environment, to animals, and to yourself!
At USTUDIO, we stock a carefully-curated range of high quality, beautifully crafted, and sustainable self-care products including Tangent GC, L:A Bruket, Triumph & Disaster and Neighbourhood Botanicals.
